What is Infrared Sauna Therapy?

Infrared light is the invisible part of natural sunlight. It is completely safe and healthy and although infrared light is a naturally occurring wavelength of the sun, it does not contain the harmful UV rays associated with unprotected sunlight. In fact, infrared is so safe, hospitals use infrared to warm newborn infants.

Infrared light can penetrate the body up to 2 inches. It is absorbed by the body and safely raises the core body temperature over 3 degrees (to over 102 degrees) after each 40-minute session.

How long are your sessions?

Sauna therapy sessions are 40 minutes. All appointments are booked on the half hour.

How do I make an appointment?

You can schedule your next appointment at our front desk or booking online through our website, yogasouth.net.

What should I wear?

Wear something comfortable and loose fitting such as workout clothes or a swimsuit. That being said, you can wear as much or as little as you would like while in the privacy of your sauna suite.

Do you provide showers?

Yes, however not showering can lengthen the detoxifying effects for up to an hour as you continue to sweat out toxins and cool down.

How long does it take my core temperature to return to normal?

It is normal for the body to take as much as an hour to return to its regular temperature.  This is why the body continues to sweat after the sauna is finished.

How often should I come in?

The more time you spend in the sauna the better! That being said, the frequency will depend upon your individual health and wellness goals. We recommend at least 3 times a week. For more aggressive results, 4-5 times a week is recommended. We suggest visiting the sauna immediately following your workout or yoga practice to see the best results. We also recommend a sauna therapy following massage and chiropractic appointments.

Can I use a sauna if I have implants?

Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants generally reflect infrared waves and thus are not heated by this system. Nevertheless, you should consult your physician prior to using an infrared sauna.

Does the sessions dry out my hair?

The dry heat is meant to draw moisture out of the things to which it is exposed, which is why we sweat in the sauna. If your hair is unprotected, you will logically find that the moisture is being drawn out of it as well.

The best way to combat this is to wrap your head in a towel when you go into the sauna. It would be good that the towel is damp so that you can be sure that the hair stays moist.
One thing I would suggest is that you apply your hair conditioner before entering the sauna and THEN wrap the hair in the towel. Doing this would allow you to give your hair a deep conditioning treatment while you soothe your tired muscles. Afterward, simply shampoo and shower as you normally would after a workout.

Can a friend to join me in the sauna?
